“ We are regulars of the Matamoras location but we were in the Newton area visiting family and stopped in. Wayback never lets us down. Burgers are always great and the fries were crispier and hotter than we were used to, which was great. It's cozy and trendy looking inside. The service was great! They greeted us when we came in and they came over and asked how our food was. I hope the people who came when they first opened, return and give them another chance. The only bit of constructive criticism would be not to rush the cheese melting process :-). Best of luck to this location. ”

“ TL:DR - Good food but not great. Room for improvement. It was a Sunday just before noon, so it was not very crowded. The folks at the counter were kind, helpful, and courteous. They took my order, recommended I get a combo because I wanted fries, and said they would bring my food to my table, which was nice. About 15 minutes later, they delivered my food & shake. The first thing I noticed was that the Bourbon Bacon Burger had onion ring fragments on it, not whole rings like on the menu. Maybe they were leftovers from someone else’s order or what was left in the freezer? The meat was tender and juicy, and the bacon was just right. What little “special sauce” was in there basically tasted like Gulden’s brown mustard, which was overpowering and disappointing. The side of fries was mostly unremarkable. They were run of the mill fries. They weren’t salted so I added my own from the table shaker. When I ordered my Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake, they asked if I wanted whipped cream and I said no thank you. They gave it to me anyways. There was a good amount of cereal in there, but without the caramel syrup they drizzled in the cup first, it would have been mostly just vanilla tasting. I drank about half of it to get the cereal bits, and left the rest. Overall it was … fine? Okay? If one of my friends wanted to try it out, having never gone there before, I guess I would go again. But otherwise, I don’t really have a reason to go back. I was underwhelmed. ”

“ What a hidden gem. And also a little hidden. This place is right next to Firestone in Newton. If you are driving and looking for it you might not see it. But make the stop and go here. It's very worth it. It quaint and cute on the inside. The cheesy burger was exactly as described a burger with grilled cheese it was excellent. I personally don't prefer all the extras on a burger. We also got the onion rings and fries. Onion rings were A+ and so were the fries. My mom got a chicken sandwich which she said was great. The staff was extremely friendly with the menu and explaining what was what. Also I was pleasantly surprised at the price I was willing to spend $50 but for the 2 sandwiches and friend sand onion rings and 2 drinks it was $33. The owner even walked over and made some small talk which I really enjoyed it made it feel special. He also convinced me to get the milk shake. Again very worth it If you find yourself in Hampton township make you way here you won't be sorry ”

“ 1st time here. Had an amazing experience. The owner really left an impression and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great meal. Hospitality 11/10. Food was great and done well and was well worth the price. Our kids loved the fresh to order chicken tenders and the burgers had great flavor. Other burger joints near by are not as great for way more money. Great value, great food, great atmosphere. We will be coming back. Thanks wayback for a great experience. Keep up the great work! ”

“ I had an amazing experience at Wayback Burgers! The burgers were absolutely delicious — juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The variety of toppings and sauces really sets them apart from other burger joints. The fries were crispy and the milkshakes were to die for! “ We were disappointed. Service was wonderful, everyone is so nice and attentive. Atmosphere, gosh we LOVE those 2K’s throwbacks of MCR, Gorillaz, Fall Out Boy etc. the place is incredibly clean but small and kind of cramped, wouldn’t mind better lighting in the back either. The food. Best fried pickles in Sussex, cheese curds were a little overdone but not bad at all. Cinnamon Toast Milkshake was delicious and so rich. The Classic Burger with the wayback sauce was absolutely wonderful and full of flavor, the patty for how thin it was though was a little overcooked. Granted, they originally only came out with the apps and the chicken sandwich and admitted to overlooking my husbands burger and that they didn’t realize it was on the ticket. Now, onto the Chicken BLT sandwich. HEAVILY Disappointed. I went in with high expectations because it came so highly recommended by everyone on the Facebook Sussex county group pages; I was excited not to have to drive 40 minutes to SuperChix in Rockaway for a chicken sandwich…HOWEVER, the Breading was appalling, they even tried setting it up on the plate hiding under the fry container that it wouldn’t be noticeable. Bread was hard and overtoasted to the point it was dark. The bacon had black in it and hard/overcooked, the chicken was dry and overcooked and the breading as you can see from the pictures were dark and falling apart. As a former restaurant entrepreneur, I would’ve never let chicken sandwiches leave the kitchen like this. Subpar..it left that charred taste in the back of my mouth. I didn’t finish the sandwich or the bacon. I’d like to think maybe we caught them on a bad day, it was a 40 minute wait time. Maybe they had the heat too high on the fryer or they were so busy trying to keep up with the rush that they weren’t fast enough trying to keep up with all the orders after slapping something on the grill or in the fryer, it’s a small kitchen it seems with multiple cooks and they probably have everything cooking at once. We left and came back after placing our order, no big deal at all. I would’ve been fine waiting an hour or more if it meant my food came out with more care. Execution needs to be reworked. If you want a good chicken sandwich, I’d save your money and just drive to Rockaway. However, the burgers are a good change of pace from Cow Patties or if you don’t want to drive to Smashburger and they have much better pricing for a Sussex County fast burger place. ”
